But, like, what is a conscious business anyways?
It’s definitely a trendy word lately, but for good reason. To me, a conscious business is one that uses their money and power to give back to this world in a variety of ways. It’s more than just believing that doing good is the right thing to do, but actually acting on it as well.
Being a conscious business, of course, doesn’t mean perfection. It’s about embodying a bigger cause and doing your own part in whatever way possible to help keep our earth and the people on it happy, healthy, and supported.
If you want to include more sustainable practices in your business, start with asking yourself this question:
Do you care about the earth and the people on it?
I’m assuming the answer is yes, which is good news! You’re already ahead of the game. By simply caring about your intentions you’re half way there to set up your business in a more sustainable way. Here are some ways you can organize your business so you’re doing some good while also killing it in the entrepreneur field.
If sustainability isn’t a part of your values, then how are you and your employees or customers really supposed to be passionate about it? Make it an integral part of your business where you aim to be more earth-friendly in every aspect of your business (and life!) and you’ll find that everyone will follow. Showing your passion will also make others admire you and respect your knowledge, making you a more trustworthy source.
Looking to buy some merch, new business cards, or client gifts? Find products that are locally and ethically made. Simple swaps like removing plastic cutlery from your office kitchen, collaborating with printers that work with sustainable products (paper, ink, etc.) or sourcing eco-friendly water bottles for your customers are all great ways to make your business more green.
This is probably the easiest way to bring sustainability into your business! Simply find a cause that is close to your heart and donate to it! Whether all or some of the proceeds from your limited edition merch line go to the cause, you’re part of 1% for the Planet, or you organize a volunteer day with your favourite non-profit, donating time or money to a cause is a great actionable way to help the planet. Some of our favourites are:
